We're supporting the development and delivery of a Carbon Literacy® course currently aimed at local eco-groups, councils, education establishments, & visitors to GreenFest and our Nature and Climate stall at local events.

The course has had a fantastic response from the first 39 participants (who are all now independently certified as Carbon Literate by the Carbon Literacy Project) and who all say they are more confident making sense of conflicting information and talking to others.

Latest News:
We're delighted that our local trainer has just been accredited as a Level 2 trainer by the Carbon Literacy Project.
With many thanks to Veolia for supporting this.

The next courses are starting on 11th and 13th Feb, and both are now full with a waiting list.

If you would like to be added to the list for courses planned for mid-March, please
email [email protected] to register your interest. Numbers are limited, so early registration is advised.

Courses are currently free, except for the £10 certification fee.

Courses are usually on Zoom, and can be arranged at various times including:
  • Evenings from 6pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 8.30am
  • Friday from 1pm
  • Weekends
Please tell us your availability when you get in touch.

The course is three sessions of between 2.5 to 3 hours.
You don’t need to commit to the same time each week for all three sessions, as there are usually several groups running at the same time and you can move between groups.

Comments from Carbon Literacy participants, Summer 2025:
  • I've learnt so much more than I thought I would, and it's opened conversations at work and with friends.
  • I'm definitely more confident talking to people about the changes they can make for the better - even my mother-in-law!
  • A big thank you! This course really helped to consolidate my existing knowledge.
  • I now understand how, what I had previously thought were just pointless buzzwords, are actually the solutions.
  • This course has helped me more than I thought it would - much more than just something to add to my CV.
  • I can better understand the news headlines and see common themes linked to ongoing climate change and why we have got to do something about it.
  • Helps with actions over talk.
  • I now feel empowered to campaign for the Climate and Nature Bill with policy makers.
  • I loved meeting this way on Zoom and sharing information. This feels like a starting point, with things to work on and learn more. Brilliant - thank you.
  • Good to be refreshed on knowledge, and to realise there is lots you collectively can do
  • I'm now thinking about things in a new light, looking at the subject from a different angle - it's good to see there are positive actions we can take.
Comments from Participants in Autumn 2025

The course is currently delivered by NCN member, scientist and tutor, Dr Pat Watson. Pat has written an article (click on the green button below) about the practical issues she addressed, and also the unexpected benefits to her family, of halving her carbon footprint.

Pat also talks to local groups about reducing our impact on nature and climate. Please email [email protected] for more information. Recent talks include at Shalbourne Gardening Club, Thatcham Town Council, and the Newbury Branch of the United Nations Association.
